Goodreads Book Tag

I originally saw this tag on Catriona of Little Book Owl‘s Youtube, and it looked like a lot of fun. I use Goodreads every single day, so I love that there is a tag about it.

small leaves devider

1. What is the last book you marked as read:

Stolen by Kelly Armstrong

2. What are you currently reading?

Afterlight by Gena Showalter

Ashoka by E.K. Johnston

3. What is the last book you marked as to be read?

Foretold by Sophia Sharp

4. What book do you plan to read next?

Skulduggery Pleasant: Resurrection by Derek Landy

5. Do you use the star rating system?

I do. Like most people, I wish there were half star ratings.

6. Are you doing a 2016 reading challenge?

No

7. Do you have a wish list?

I have several wish lists on Amazon, and they all help me organize and prioritize what I want to read and purchase next.

8. What book do you plan to buy next?

Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare

9. Do you have any favorite quotes to share?

If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals. – Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

I wanted to tell the book thief many things, about beauty and brutality. But what could I tell her about those things that she didn’t already know? I wanted to explain that I am constantly overestimating and underestimating the human race-that rarely do I ever simply estimate it. I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant. – The Book Thief

10. Who are your favorite authors?

Derek Landy
Cassandra Clare
Kelley Armstrong
Rick Riordan
Victoria Schwab

11. Have you joined any groups?

Quite a few! I’m not very active in most of them.

12. Are there any questions you would want to add?

Some things I wish would change on Goodreads:

  • Addition of 1/2 star ratings
  • Ability to easily record re-reads (without switching to a different edition)
  • Consistently show the edition/cover of a book that I’ve put on my shelf, rather than the default, during searches
  • More customization options for choosing what appears in the Updates feed

Star Wars Book Tag

What is this? Another tag ? This amazing tag was created by Elizabeth you can check out her channel  here and Joana you can also see her channel here. I want to warn you that there might be possible spoilers to a variety of series.

1.R2-D2

The lovable droid filled with sass: Name a series that made you laugh.

I’m gonna have to go with Skulduggery Pleasnat series. I loved this series so much and there were so many funny scenes in it! For not mentioning the hilarious dialogue between the monster hunters Donegan Bane and Gracious O’Callahan, and then there is Skulduggery’s sense of humor that just makes me laugh every time!

2.Padme Amidala

Even though she’s not a Jedi, she sure does kick some butt: Name a badass female character.

Well, of course I have to go with Issabelle Lightwood for this! She’s the first character that comes to mind when I think of the word badass and I absolutely love her!

3. Leia Organa

This girl gets herself into a rather strange love situation: Name your favorite of least favorite love triangle.

I’ll have to say Aspen, America and Maxon in The Selection series. I just never saw the point of this love triangle at all, especially since it was pretty obvious who she was going to end up with from the start. And besides, I’ve always been on team Maxon, so Aspen getting in the middle got in my nerves a lot.

4. Luke Skywalker

The last hope to restore the Jedi Order: Name a rising author or a new to you author that you love.

For this I’ll go with Jason Segel. I absolutely love the Nightmares trilogy and I can’t believe it was her first novel. I was hanging by her every word while reading this!

5.Anakin Skywalker

A character whose morals changed over time: Name a series that started out well, but ended out badly.

I’ll go with the Demon Road trilogy by Derek Landy. I absolutely loved the Skulduggery Pleasant series, so I had high hopes for this trilogy. I loved the first book and the second book was okay. When it came to the last book American Monsters, I had expectations of how it was going to end, but it didn’t go the way I hoped. This was because a certain character was killed and I always thought that he would survive. I had such high expectations from this series and by the end of it, I just felt disappointed.

6.Qui-Gon Jinn

Losing himself to a terrible fate: Name a character who suffers a tragic death.

I actually have a couple more in mind, but I’m gonna go with Prim in Mockingjay. I was pretty shocked when I read about that explosion and what happened to her and I still can’t quite wrap my mind around it. I also don’t really see the point in her dying like that and feel it was a bit unnecessary even though Suzanne Collins has given her reasons for doing it.

7. Han Solo

Unsuccessfully using his wittiness to get himself out of sticky situations. Name your favorite sassy character.

How could I not think of Captain Thorne for this? I mean, Thorne is practically Han Solo in The Lunar Chronicles universe, isn’t he? Let’s see, he flies a space ship, he’s quite charming, he has a witty sense of humor and he falls in love with a rather unlikely girl. Yep, he’s Han Solo! And I absolutely love him! Both of them!

8.Emperor Palpatine

A well constructed character in a vast universe: Name a series with incredible world building.

A Court of Mist and Fury, Sarah J Maas-The Night Court ,Sarah’s words are beautiful the way she describes the night court I could picture it perfectly. Its breathtaking, dark beautiful surrounded by stars.

9. Obi-Wan Kenobi

Even though he is “to the book”, he is a force to be reckoned with: Name a series that exceeded your expectations.

I’ve only read the first book but I’ll have to go with Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch. I never expected to like this book as much as I did but it turned out to be quite amazing and I loved the story and all the characters. I need to get around to reading the second book too.

10. Master Yoda

A being containing so much wisdom: Name a series that taught you something or that made you grow.

Here comes the obligatory Harry Potter asnwer. But seriously, how could I choose anything else? Harry Potter means so much to me! It was a series I grew up with and it taught me to look for magic in the world and that “happiness exists in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light”. A few words of wisdom from Albus Dumbledore are always welcome and I know that Hogwarts will always be there for me when I need it.

11. Darth Vader

Learning about how he became this man only made us love him more: Name your favorite villain.

Hands down The Darkling from the Grisha trilogy. I just love him, even though he’s quite dark. I can’t help it!

12.Chewbacca

Loyal to his friends, he’s always got your back: Name your favorite fictional best friend.

This one goes to two of my absolute favorite characters of all time! Will Herondale and James Carstairs. I know this is kinda cheating but I simply can’t separate these two, so this is what I’m going with. I adore their parabatai relationship and I am still amazed by the lengths they were willing to go to, to protect each other. This is probably one of my favorite fictional friendships of all time and the ending of Clockwork Princess always brings tears to my eyes. Cassandra Clare really knows how to mess with our poor fangirl hearts.

13.C-3PO

Despite his simple ways, he always gets himself into trouble: Name a character who always needs saving.

I’ll go way back for this one too and say Bella. I mean honeslty, is there an explanation needed? Bella was always a damsel in distress waiting for Edward or Jacob to save her and this is one of the things that annoyes me the most about her character. I really don’t like female protagonists who always depend on others and never actually do anything themselves.

14. Boba Fett

Witnessing the death of his father must have been difficult: Name a character who went through a traumatic childhood experience.

Again I’m gonna have to go with Celaena. I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to spoil those of you who haven’t read these books yet – if you’re one of them, what are you waiting for? Drop everything and go pick up Throne of Glass now! – but I think we can all agree what happened to her when she was a child was pretty traumatic and it was what defined her character.

15.Rey

A scavenger who ‘just so happens’ to be Force sensitive: Name a character with a mysterious past.

Six of Crows features an impressive set of character that all have a rather mysterious background, but I think Kaz easily wins this one! He’s one of the most brilliant characters I’ve ever come across and he was a huge mystery I couldn’t wait to solve in the beginning of the book. I’m dying to read more about him and the Dregs – especially after that ending – but unfortunately we’re gonna have to wait until September! It’s too far away! Help!

16.Stormtrooper Finn

Questioning his future, he finally makes his own decision to change sides: Name a character who has questioned his/her morals.

I had to think a bit about this one but then it hit me like a brigt epiphany. Or maybe it was the force giving me the anwer. Definitely Elias from An Ember in the Ashes. Elias is trained to be a soldier in an Empire that is stricly ruled by martial laws but already at the beginning of the book he’s began to question his loyalty to it and just wants to be free of the tyranny the Empire enforces. I absolutely love Elias! He’s such a strong and determined character and of the best male protagonists I’ve ever encountered!

17.Poe Dameron

An amazing pilot flying through hyperspace: Name your favorite series that travels through time.

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray. Well okay, this book isn’t exactly about time travel, it’s about dimensional travel but it’s too good not to mention. Such an awesome idea for a story and don’t even get me started about the plot twists in this! I absolutely loved the first book and I can’t wait to read the second!

18. Kylo Ren

Obsessed with an idealistic view of his grandfather: Name a character who will stop at nothing to fulfill their destiny.

I really, really don’t want to choose Throne of Glass again but I just have to. I wouldn’t exactly call it destiny, but Celaena would definitely stop at nothing to get what she wants and defeat the King of Adarlan. She really was unstoppable in Queen of Shadows. And Manon perfectly quialifies for this, too!

19.Maz Kanata

Even though she’s force sensitive, she never trained in the ways of the Jedi Order: Name a character who doesn’t rise to their full potential.

Clary in The Mortal Instruments. I do like Clary and she did come a long way from City of Bones to City of Heavenly Fire but I just feel her character still had so much more potential and that she could have been a lot more amazing than she actually was in the books. She just made so many wrong choices for me and I was annoyed by her character quite often.

20.BB-8

Following previous droids is not an easy task, but he is loved by all: Name a sequel you prefer over the first.

I’ll have to agree with Bia and Cass for this and go with Catching Fire. The Hunger Games was a great book and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but Catching Fire was just epic and it still remains my favorite in the trilogy.

So that was the Star Wars Book Tag! It was actually a lot harder to do than I thought. Thank you all for reading and I’ll be back soon with another post!

Social Media Book Tag

I saw this tag done by Ariel Bissett on her Youtube channel. This tag was originally created by Regan at FaultyDevices on Youtube. Since Ariel changed a few of the questions up a bit, I ended up doing a combination of both Regan and Ariel’s questions.

The questions are based around social media sites, but with a bookish theme. So here are my picks for each major social media site.

Twitter- Your favorite shortest book.

3636.jpg

The Giver has been a favorite book of mine for a long time now. It is one of my shortest books coming in at 179 pages.

Facebook – A book everybody pressured you into reading.

1656001

I thought the Twilight books were okay so I never thought to pick up The Host until after some friends dragged me to the movie. When they learned that I hadn’t read it yet, I found the book in my hands very quickly. I really enjoyed it!

Tumblr – A book you read before it was cool.

11235712.jpg

I’m going to sound so hipster but I have been a book pusher for Cinder since the day it came out. I had wandered into the bookstore that Tuesday and was instantly captivated by the cover. As soon as I read the synopsis, I knew Cinder had to come home with me. I bought it and read it that night. I love this series so much! If you haven’t read it, I would highly encourage you to do so!

MySpace- A book you don’t remember whether you liked or not.

5659.jpg

I know I’ve read this, but I can’t remember if I liked it or not. But if I had to hazard a guess, I’m going to guess I liked it based on the fact that I adore most of Robin McKinley’s work and I own a copy of it.

Instagram – A book that was so beautiful you had to instagram it.

nrm_1409683091-southern-reach.jpg

I feel like all books are now designed with Instagram in mind. I think that the most beautiful book that I have purchases/encountered recently is Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer. This is the first book in the Southern Reach Trilogy and I have heard great things about the book. The cover has beautiful illustrations inside and out. You will be blown away by Charlotte Strick’s design.

Youtube- A book you wish would be turned into a movie.

20172134.jpg

There are so many books I want made into movies, but I think I want to see the Nightmares Trilogy get made into an animated movie. This trilogy follower Charlie and this nightmare world, that would be so cool to see.

Goodreads – A book you recommend to everyone.

924062.jpg

Skulduggery Pleasant is one of my favorite series of all time. If you like magic and humor, this book is for you. Just go read it. Seriously. Everyone needs to read this book!

Skype- A book with characters that you wish you could talk to instead of just reading about.

3.jpg

This was an easy one to answer! If I could interact with any characters, it would be the characters from Harry Potter. The answer is always Harry Potter. But seriously, how fun would it be to talk to Ron, Harry, and Hermoine?

That is the Social Media Book Tag. If you feel like doing this on your blog, consider yourself tagged. Just make sure to leave a link to your post in the comments!
